I’m trying to buy a condo in Cincinnati. Hopefully in the next two months. I have worked with two realtors now, they both seem very slow. I have to remind them to send me information. There is nothing that they have shown me that I could not have found myself on trulia.com/realtor.com. I feel a bit frustrated. I know the market is slow there, so shouldnt there be alot of condos for sale?
Find a CRS (certified residential specialist) who also has an ABR (accredited buyer representative) designation.
The fact that a realtor has taken the time and paid the money to get this extra training usually means that they want to be the best that they can be so as to better serve their clients.
The ABR is additional training for working with buyers. The CRS requires a significant number of transactions completed, as well as a number of quite expensive courses on various aspects of being a realtor. It is the most respected designation for realtors, since only about 4% of realtors actually achieve this designation.
If you are somewhat techy, also look for an E-Pro certification. This means that the realtor knows how to use technology and the internet to better service their clients. Agents with this certification probably also have their own personal websites (not just a page on the company website), where you can look for properties in the local MLS, instead of national databases such as trulia or realtor.com. They may also have their websites set up to send you new listings automatically, according to the criteria you set.
To find a CRS, go to http://www.CRS.com.
In addition, get your own buyer agent and work only with that agent. Let your agent make the contacts with other agents who have homes listed. Loyalty to your own agent will result in better service to you. You may be asked to sign a buyer representation agreement.
Before you decide who you want to work with, interview those who seem like the best possibilities. Look for someone with energy and the knowledge you seek.
As it happens I have all three of the designations I mentioned above. There aren’t too many agents who do have all of these. When I work with buyers, I send them listings, but I also encourage them to look on their own as well. Between the two of us, we can usually come up with a list of properties which will best meet my buyers’ needs.
Good luck.

While the CRS designation is good, you would be better off with a newer agent that is fired up and ready to work for you. If you need help finding a Realtor, let me know I am a Realtor and I have access to great Realtors across the country. Just email me and I will help.

Your issues are not indigenous to Cincinnati — it happens in every city around the country However, I think you ask the right question: How do I find a “really good real estate agent”.
What defines “really good” is different for everyone but good communication is the start.
I am a loan officer in Cincinnati and work with many agents in many different parts of the city. Let’s talk by email or phone — tell me a little about what you’re trying to accomplish, and I’ll do my best to match you with somebody who can help you in the way you want to be helped.
Sound good?
