I have 20 thousand dollars worth of water damage in my rental condo due to the upstairs neighbors.?

I am the tenant and I am renting through century 21. they will not tell us what is going to happen with us the security deposit or anything else. the refuse to move us and want to terminate our lease. What should I do please help

    I would just accept the lease termination and move. Who wants to live somewhere with all of that water damage that isn’t being fixed?

    Check the laws in your state. The landlord only has x days to return your security deposit. They can’t charge you for damage that you or your guests did not cause. If you had allowed YOUR toilet to overflow and cause damage, that would be one thing. But you obviously didn’t cause the damage if it was caused by the upstairs neighbor.

    first file a claim with your renters insurance – they should help assess responsibility – unless the place is condemned they can’t terminate your lease
