In Janaury 2004 Water flowed from my neighbors condo from above. When asked to have the condo insurance cover the damages, denied by State Farm. When the unit’s owner was approached she stated “I’m not paying anything:”

My neighbor is claiming that I have a leak in my unit that has damaged a section of his ceiling. I checked all my sinks, toilets, water heater, showers, etc. No leak from those. Everything is dry. I found a damp spot in the central heat and air compartment, but none of the units or pipes that are exposed are leaking. I suspect a pipe running between the floors may be leaking. Am I liable regardless of the circumstances just because I live upstairs? I wasn’t negligent and I can’t get to a pipe in the floor. I’m afraid I may be forced to pay. I have insurance, but what if it doesn’t cover everything? I live in a condo.

yesterday, our washer somehow over flowed, resulting in a very wet and smelly carpet. we put towels on it to mop up excess water, tried having a fan dry it out and even used a hair dryer!!
our landlady came over(we rent a condo) and all shes going to do is check to see about the warenty on our washer. i dont think she is going to take out the carpet, so what can we do to make it dry and not smell???

Looks like bank tried to cover up water damage on a foreclosure. Help?

I’m under contract to buy a condo, and from the inspection yesterday, the inspector said their may be some cover-up of water damage. He wasn’t able to find the source, or determine how bad it is. The bank that owns the house (it was a foreclosure) probably won’t be willing to fix it. What can I do to see how bad the damage really is? Should I be really worried? Since they couldn’t find a source, I’m not too worried, but part of me still thinks something fishy is going on… Please help!
The reason I know the bank made repairs, is because in the pictures of the condo online there are pergo floors, but in the condo, there is brand new carpet and cheap laminate flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms. The bank has owned this property the entire time it has been online. What are they trying to hide? Wouldn’t they only go to that expense if the damage was REALLY bad?

The Homeowners association said they will put back the dry wall, but will not repair any of my floors,custom painting or any other interior finishes. They repaired the leak and had a mold remediation co. take out all the damaged walls, baseboards, door frames. The leak was in a common wall that services water to the unit living above the garage. The Property Management and the Association Board said that they will not repair or pay for finishing in either my unit or the next door neighbor that was affected. Is there a way to fight this…I need help…Thanks you!

Does renters/condo insurance usually cover damage caused by a leaking water pipe?

We live in a condo, upstairs. Our insurance will cover any water damage done to my neighbor below but will it cover damage to our bathroom? We may have a leak behind the wall where the shower is. Possibly a faucet. Will have it repaired tomorrow but what if the damage behind the walls is extensive in our bathroom. Will most insurances cover it? We have a renters type that covers the inside of the condo, we own our condo but the insurance is essentially the same type as renters, and any liability to other units. Any damage caused by a leaky roof or something would be covered by the property management insurance.

Washing Machine sensor — Water Damage problem?

I am posting in this area hoping there is some sort of expert that can help.

I have a downstairs condo I own in Phoenix, AZ. I’ve had a great tenant for almost a year.

On Friday, the washing machine in the condo above mine overflowed and caused A LOT of water damage to my property and 4 others.

My condo is a complete mess, parts of the celing has holes, water is in every single room.

I don’t get how a washing machine can cause THIS much damage. I have never heard of a sensor not working that it would do this.. It hit a bunch of condos.

Can this happen? My insurance agent went out this morning, but when he knocked on the door upstairs nobody answered. The property manager is the one who told me on Friday that it was the washing machine.

Ok, try to follow me here. . .lol I’m looking to purchase an investment condo to fix up. I looked at one that had some obvious water damage on the ceiling, right the corner of the air conditioner where the filter goes. I looked at another unit in the same complex, and it had the same issue in the same spot. So obviously there’s a problem, but what? It’s refrigeration, not evaporative. What would be causing the water damage? Is it something a contractor could easily fix with little to no future risk? Any info would be great.
