What do I do about water pouring from above condo?

I live on the second floor of a three story condo. Whenever my neighbors above me take a bath, I can hear water being filled in the tub and a few hours later, my ceiling is dripping with water. Eventually, the water also ends up on the floor below me. This water damage is so extreme that my walls, and the walls downstairs are damaged. The condominium association became involved but the unit owner above me is being uncooperative and is not letting anybody, including the plumber/repairman inside her unit to see if her unit is the source of the problem. Thus, everybody is left with a wet bathroom without any reason as to what the problem is. What can I do about this?

  1. Mitch says:

call the police, file a report, get your downstairs neighbors involved in this as well, then take them to court and make them pay for court costs as well as all repairs needed since it’s obviously devaluing your condo.

If the cops go knocking on their door, they may be more co-operative. either that or they’ll get arrested once they find that they’ve been murdering small children in their bathroom.

either way is a win for you.

however, you could very well start a feud which could result in a “stomping match” between you and your upstairs neighbors where you end up with broom handle pock marks in your ceiling.

    You may just consider moving…

  2. Open to suggestions says:

The condo association needs to get tough and threaten them with turning off their water until they cooperate. As the governing body of attached dwellings, they have the legal right to get the police to make the owner provide access.
